Been sick the last week and a half but I'm feeling better and back at it. Happy New Year! Last night was the coldest night up in Mammoth in a very very long time. Temps bottomed out around 0 and are only supposed to be getting up to 25 today. Things are supposed to warm up significantly this coming week though. Don't forget to buy your 2019 fishing license before you head out!

Lower Owens 1/1/2019 Flows 91 cfs

Rod Size:  #3-#5 Weights

Tippet Size: 4-5X

Dry Flies: Griffiths Gnat #20-22 Parachute Adams #18

Nymphs:  Tungsten Psycho #18, Red Copper John #18, Zebra Midge #20, Black Beauty #20

Streamers:

Flows have been stable, but the water is very cold, and a little dirty for some reason. This slowed the fishing down a little bit, but it was still very good yesterday. Only saw two fish rise while I was there, but the subsurface action was good. The fish have moved into the slow moving deeper pools now, and I can understand why with the water temperatures where they are. Make sure you're using enough weight to get your flies down, the fish were glued to the bottom. They are still keyed on mostly mayfly patterns, but there are lots of midges flying around and I managed a few grabs on midges as well. Temps are supposed to moderate throughout the week climbing back into the mid to upper 50's by this weekend.
