EAST WALKER RIVER

The East is running about 75 cfs today and has still been fishing pretty well. The water is still pretty off color due to the algae in the Reservoir dying off and getting pushed through the dam. Even with the lower visability the fish are still biting. Most of the good reports we’ve had have been with nymph but there has been a couple good reports on dries in the evenings as well as a few streamer reports. The water temps are good and the fish are happy and healthy. Patterns to try include silver streak, rainbow warrior, radiation baetis, copper John, dead drift crayfish, jj special, E/C caddis, elk hair caddis and parachute Adams.

SCEIRINE RANCH

The ranch is still fishing well with most of the same patterns as the Cali side, they’re also eating some soft hackles, dark lords and even some stonefly nymphs still down there. We’ve been getting quite a few bookings down there lately so if you want to reserve some time try to get it booked in advance if you can.

HUNEWILL POND

The pond fished pretty well this past week with most of the anglers reporting 3 to 15 fish per half day. There were a few fish being caught on dries but most were on wets like mini leeches, mayers leeches and soft hackles. Most of the fish seem to be ranging from about 14 to 20 inches and are very tough for their size so hang on!

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR

Bridgeport really picked up this week with lots of good reports coming in both from boats and from shore. There were lots of nice fish from 3 to 8 pounds caught both trolling and bait fishing. There were of course some reports of slower fishing but most of the anglers we talked to did pretty well. Power bait, pinched crawlers, inflated crawlers and mice tails all did well for the bait anglers and the trollers were using crawlers, needlefish and Rapalas.

KIRMAN LAKE

Kirman is back open but we have had no reports from up there lately.

TWIN LAKES

The Twins livened up quite a bit as well with some good fish being caught from the shore as well as boats, there are also lots of Kokanee still being caught up there. Both lakes produces fish up to around 6+ pounds this week. Mice tails, pinched crawlers and power bait all did well and the trollers are still trying to get pretty deep with needlefish, Rapalas and Thomas Bouyants.

WEST WALKER RIVER

We haven’t heard much from the West lately, the flow is very low up there, around 17 cfs so this would likely push most of the fish into some of the deeper pools and runs. Unfortunately the West hasn’t been stocked for some time so this may make finding fish tougher. If you try to hike away from where the most traffic is you may be able to find some fish in the deeper places, try to be sneaky so as not to spook the fish before you have a chance to catch some.

VIRGINIA LAKES

The Virginias are still producing some very good fish lately. The Bridgeport Fish Enhancement Foundation partnered with the Virginia Lakes Resort this past week on a load of 3 to 7 pounders that went into Little Virginia so this is a good bet for some nice fat rainbows. There are also still some nice brookies being caught up there. Power bait, mice tails, pinched crawlers and inflated crawlers are all doing well, Kastmasters seem to be the lure of choice lately. Fly anglers are using leech patterns, pheasant tails and soft hackles.

RANDOM INFORMATION:

Well, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is still open, but unfortunately the Inyo remains closed. We’ve been very lucky with the smoke situation here in the Bridgeport area this past week as it’s been very minimal lately, as long as the wind direction doesn’t change much it will hopefully stay that way. We’ve still been having some warm day time temperatures but it’s been getting into the 20’s at night lately. There are still fire restrictions everywhere in the area so keep in mind no fires.
