Main Truckee River – (between the Little Truckee Confluence and downtown Reno)

Flows have dropped even more from the previous fishing report. Water temps are still holding below 65 degrees. Our guides have been finding fish later into the day and starting at sunrise is not completely necessary. Be attentive to hatches early morning, around 7-8 and in the late afternoon typically starting around 6. Dry/dropper, tightline nymphing and streamers will all produce fish this time of year.

CURRENT TRUCKEE RIVER FLOWS AT FARAD GAGE (NEAR FLORISTON)

Brown trout spawn in the late fall and will begin to stack up on REDDs. Please leve these fish alone as they are protecting and adding to the fish population for the future. Fish not actively spawning will be very territorial and earge to defend their place in the river. Throwing beg streamers will trigger strikes often this time of year.

Flies: Pheasant Tail #16 and #18, Biot Epoxy Stone, Copper John black, Carotene, Oops, Bellyache Minnow and the Bead Head Olive Wooly Bugger.

Lake Davis and Frenchman’s Reservoir

Not too much of a change here, but be aware of stroms moving intot he area that will bring nasty winds and a steep decrease in temperatures. Be prepared for morning hatches, damsel flies and blood midges to make a strong comeback before winter. Fish will be trying to put on pounds so baitfish patterns can be very effective in these last months, but don’t give up on Chironomids under a breakway indicator in the Big Cove area.

Flies: Balanced Leech canadian olive and diablo, SST Leech, Red Eye Damsel, Mini Damsel, Sheep Creek Special, Blood Midge, and the Patient Midge
