The Metolius This Past Week Was a Blast

I was out at the Metolius this past week and it was a blast. Green drakes were out and so were pale morning duns and caddis. The green drake hatch will likely start to taper off during this week, especially once the hot weather comes in. Pale morning duns will be around for a while and caddis will start to be the dominant hatch during hot days. There were a few small golden stones crawling around on the banks, these will begin to be more prominent as well. Nymphing is always very productive at the Metolius. I would focus on nymphs that imitate the PMDs. We’ve got some excellent looking split back PMD nymphs in the shop. Golden stone nymphs and green drake nymphs are both good choices. Caddis pupa will definitely be in the drift and you can dead drift or swing them.
