The Crooked River has been fishing really well. The fish are very keyed into the pale morning dun hatch which has been a lot of fun. The hatch starts right around noon and most of the PMDs are size 16 - 18. Some small caddis have been hatching in the morning as well. Nymphing has been great with PMD nymphs and caddis pupa. The typical small mayfly nymphs have been consistent, so have midges. Red is always a good color for nymphs on the Crooked. By the end of the month we may start to see the PMD action die down and the blue wing olive action heat up. Now is an excellent time to head to the crooked for the last of the summer hatches.
