The Lower Deschutes is running a bit high right now around 5100 CFS but that is much better than the close to 7000 it was last week and fishing remains good. Fish are in close to the banks and taking stonefly nymphs well. Peacock jimmy legs, lex’s improved stones, and double bead peacock stones have been some of our favorites. In addition to stoneflies, pheasant tails, duracells, jigged leeches, squirmies, and two-bits have also been picking up fish. Higher than normal flows can be an especially good time to throw around a sculpin, crayfish, or leech streamer and really cover some water. One of our guides saw the first salmonfly of the year a couple of days ago and they should be showing up in higher numbers soon so stop in stock up on your big bugs!
