The shore bite at Pyramid remains surprisingly consistent for Mid-November, as the fish are found in close and at depths of 8-12 feet throughout the day. The early-to-mid-morning bite has been the most reliable. The catch rate seems to slow most days from around 1:00pm to 3:00pm, and bite will generally pick up again from the late afternoon into the evening. The fish appear to be spread out around most of the lake right now, but the bite has been most consistent around the southern beaches. Due to this, the crowds around here have been a bit more closely packed than normal for this time of year. There are still open stretches of beach to be found for those looking to get away from crowds. Don’t be afraid to seek out some different water. Look for ledges and deeper drop-offs within casting range from shore, and they are sure to be holding fish. When fishing under an indicator, we have had almost equal luck on both balanced leeches and midges. Leeches probably have a slight edge, putting a few more fish in the net than the midge. The midge bite appears to be best early afternoon when small hatches are present. The leeches will be best fished during low light hours or when cloud cover is present. A good bobber-chop will also help the cause. The strip bite has been hit or miss, but can certainly account for some decent action when the bite is there. While the fishing has been far from red-hot, the average size of the fish has been great so far this year, with a high percentage of the fish exceeding 10 pounds. The biggest confirmed fish this year was over 22 pounds, and we expect to see a heck of a lot more in the weight class. There are rumors of much larger fish already caught this year during the opener in October. We are so excited for another stellar year at this amazing fishery. We hope to see you out there. If you do, be sure to say hi!
