Current Water Conditions

The Little Truckee River is running strong but steady with flows around 520 CFS between Boca and Stampede Reservoirs. Though flows are on the higher side, they remain clear and fishable, especially for experienced anglers.

Water Temperatures

Consistently around 55°F - ideal for trout activity.

Hatches

The river is seeing good midday hatches, especially from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Look for Pale Morning Duns, Blue Winged Olives, Ants, and March Browns. These hatches tend to come off strongest in slower runs and tailouts with good sunlight.

Effective Tactics

Subtle indicator setups and tightline nymphing remain highly productive. Use small indicators, one or two BB split shot, and long 5X tippet to keep presentations delicate and stealthy. Dry fly windows are opening, with risers biting in calmer water. Stealth and slow movements are crucial on this clear and technical tailwater.

Catch Report

Anglers are reporting consistent action on nymph rigs, with most fish being spotted and stalked in deeper slots and foam lines. Browns and rainbows are both showing, with fish in the 12–16" range being the norm. Dry fly takes are increasing during early afternoon hatches.
