The Lower D continues to fish well

The Lower D continues to fish well through the dog days of summer. PMDs and caddis are the main course, and trout are holding in classic caddis water—edges, seams, and soft pockets near overhanging trees where bugs collect and drift. In the evenings, fish can be seen working the surface steadily, and dries like Elk Hair Caddis, X-Caddis, Parachute PMDs, Foam Body Caddis, and the new Center Stage Caddis are all getting eaten.

Midday is about nymphing, especially if the canyon wind picks up and kills your dry fly game. When that happens, dig into the box and fish confidence patterns like the Walt’s Worm, Jig PMD Nymph, Warrior Jig, Berry’s PCP, and Blue Lightning Bug. The Pink Tracksuit is still picking off fish when they want flash. Target those deeper seams and buckets where fish have current, cover, and oxygen.

It’s a week to fish the whole day—just shift tactics with the conditions. The fish are there and eating, especially if you stay mobile and adjust to the rhythm of the river.
