t’s a great time to be on the Metolius right now. Hatches are building, with those little yellow mayflies leading the charge—PMD patterns will get it done. March browns are starting to show, and BWOs are fading but still around on cooler days. Caddis are picking up as well, mostly in that 18–14 range with a few bigger orange bugs mixed in.
Nymphing has been the most consistent. Golden stone nymphs are producing well, along with caddis pupa and general mayfly patterns. Focus on seams, pocket water, and softer edges. Bull trout fishing has been decent—put in the time with streamers and you’ve got a shot.
Things are greening up, bugs are moving, and fish are feeding. Hard to beat it right now.
