The flows on the LT have been getting “staircased down” over the last couple of weeks, dropping from 300 CFS to 150 CFS today. It’s always tough to say whether it will continue, but we are hoping that they decide to keep it at 150, which is pretty ideal summer flows. When flows drop like this, it leaves a lot of stagnant water along the banks of certain sections of river, and the mosquitos can be really nasty. Be sure to bring bug spray! The day in, day out hatch here will be PMDs, hatching mid day and last a few hours. Due to their consistency, they should be dry fly anglers main focus and all life cycles of this bug should be represented in their box. Other hatches have been Green Drakes, BWOs, midges and some caddis. These are more important for the nymph fisherman, but the drakes and the BWOs in particular are also good options on top when PMDs aren’t present. Like the main river, as we head into the 4th of July weekend, expect this river to become busy with anglers and non-anglers alike. Unlike the main river this is a much smaller and shorter section of water and it will seem to be more crowded because of this. That said, we would encourage you to focus on the odd hours of the day if you were after any sort of solitude on the water. Happy 250th everyone!
