The Crooked River continues to experience exceptionally low flows, with releases holding around 38 CFS this week. Irrigation season has ended, and ODFW expects flows to remain near 35 CFS through October before increasing to approximately 50 CFS for the winter. Fish are becoming increasingly concentrated in deeper pools and runs, making it especially important to limit pressure.

BWOs remain the primary fall mayfly to watch for, particularly during cooler and overcast afternoons. Midges continue to be important, while PMDs and smaller caddis may still provide opportunities depending on the day.

Subsurface fishing remains an option with small Baetis nymphs, Perdigons, Pheasant Tails, scuds, midges, and egg patterns all worth having in the rotation. Light presentations and careful approaches will be important in the reduced flows. ODFW intends to keep the river open year-round but will continue monitoring conditions and fishing pressure. Anglers should consider limiting their catch or exploring alternative fisheries until flows improve.
