Weather Conditions for the opener were as good as we've ever seen them with gorgeous weather, great access and hungry fish all weekend. Mother Nature really dialed in a great one this year.

South Lake had ample shore access for the opener crowds and both the fishing and catching was excellent. Limits were the rule and the trout weren't terribly picky hitting everything from worms, to lures, mini-jigs and powerbait. Bright orange seemed to be the hot color but just about anything was working.

The lake was frozen mid week but by Sunday afternoon the lake was pretty much ice free except for the area behind the island which was still a good 12" thick. The lake level is currently below the bottom of the launch ramp and it will likely be some time before private boaters can launch.

South Lake Boat Landing will have boats available for rent starting May 17th.
