Current Lake Conditions: August can produce good fishing on Baum. Go early in the day, before the sun gets high in the sky. Then again near sunset. Not too much going on mid day because nothing is hatching. In the AM hours it's midges that drive the bite, then near sunset there can be sparse PED hatch where the water is moving, above the parking lot. Some good flies to use are : #18 Red Copper Johns, #18 Chromie or Zebra Midge, WD-40.

The Fly Shop's ? Tips: Hatches consist of Damsel flies and early AM midges. Best results are obtained fishing sub-surface through the summer months. Stripping and retrieving Damseleechs or Swimming Leeches on intermediate sinking lines is a great tactic as is suspending #22 black Zebra Midges or Mercer's Gidget under a small indicator. Try a black A.P. on a slow retrieve. There are a lot of scuds in Baum Lake, making various scud patterns an obvious choice.

Baum Lake is an ideal fishing destination for pontoon boats, float tubes and small prams.

Fishing an Intermediate sinking line with a Damsel nymph or small PT nymph can produce a bent fly rod. The key is SLOW strips! Nothing in Baum Lake is moving fast. Use lighter, longer leaders. Delicate dry-fly presentations will produce more strikes.

Road Conditions: No road restrictions for this area.
