Water Conditions:

As of November 7, 2008 Water flows are holding at 36 c.f.s.

Water temps have dropped! Morning and afternoon fishing will be the best. Evenings may slow a little when it gets cold after the sun goes down. On warmer days there may still be a bite in the p.m.

Fishing Conditions and Hatches: Fair

Fall going to winter is definitely here. We have experienced quite a bit of snowfall, lately, in the high country. Nighttime temps have dropped below freezing in a lot of areas and daytime temps have been noticeably colder. It is really cold on the EW in the morning!!!!!

With the lower winter flow regime now in play there may not be a whole lotta water to fish. Look for the typical deeper slots, holes and runs. A trip into Nevada may be worth it as the ranches do have a bit more water flowing into the river down there.

Recommended Flies:

Dry Flies:
May not be great dry fly fishing right now. But try fishing dry/droppers with the lower fall flow regime. Try adult caddis or hopper dries and caddis emergers, midges or small bwo mayfly patterns below.

Nymphs:
Midges are a really important food source as we go from fall into winter. Keep changing your patterns to find what they want. A good selection of WD-40's #20-24 in black, grey and olive are essential. Zebra Midges, Disco Midges and glass bead sparkle midges. #20 Micro Mayfly #22 Pheasant Tails, #20 Hare's Ears, #20-22 Barr's BWO Emergers and Olive Surface Emergers.

Streamers:
White/ Grey Zonkers and Double Bunny streamers fished on the swing and dead drifted and pulled.

Guides Hint: Pulling streamers during the non hatch periods may produce some monsters. Cover water?Ķafter they see the "trick" a few times the novelty wears off.
