Lake Tahoe is shaping up nicely for anglers this week, with clear skies, calm mornings, and surface temperatures ranging from 53–56°F. Midges and small mayflies are hatching along the shoreline, especially early in the day. Trolling with lead core or downriggers at 30–60 feet is producing solid results for lake trout, with most macks in the 3–6 lb range and the occasional double-digit catch. Kokanee are starting to show in small numbers. Shore anglers are finding success near Cave Rock and Sand Harbor using nightcrawlers and PowerBait. Rainbows are active early around drop-offs. The bite tends to slow by late morning, so it’s best to hit the water early. Watch for shifting winds and weather midweek that could affect conditions.
