The Upper Deschutes is fishing solid right now, though those infamous mosquitos are thick—pack serious repellent and maybe a head net. PMDs and Caddis dominate the hatch scene, with afternoon and early evening dry fly windows lighting up in meadow runs and shaded seams. On sunny midday stretches, drop into Euro or indicator nymph rigs with Perdigons, Scuds, Spanish Bullets, Pheasant Tails, and Fire Starters fished tight to structure. For bigger fish, small streamers like the Sculpzilla stripped through undercuts are triggering aggressive takes. Terrestrials—ants and beetles—are also pulling fish when the lake drops. Long clean drifts and a mix of drys, nymphs, and streamers make for a well-rounded day on the water.
