Some good fly fishing happening on the Truckee River. Fall has come early this year, and the fishing is good.

Cold overnight lows, turning into mild afternoons. Obviously that has lowered the water temps into the fishy zone. We've had lots of rain the past month.

Fishing is good all up and down the river. Out East on the lower Truckee River, flows are up a bit and the fishing is good. In the canyons in CA, fishing is good too. Start a little later, you'll freeze your ass off down there in the mornings.

Look for trouts to be in softer water early and move into faster water later. You might get lucky and have a good dry fly fishing afternoon, (if it's cloudy), but you should focus on the nymph rigs to catch fish.

Fish streamers if you want a lunker. Pre-spawn brown trout can be very aggressive. Not for everyone-but for some the way to fish.

This is a great time of year to be in the mountains.
