The day stretch is back!

The redbands are active and feisty on the Lower Deschutes right now, and it’s a great time to be out there before things really ramp up. Most of the action is still subsurface, but we’re starting to see more consistent dry fly windows once the day warms up. Expect bugs to start showing sometime late morning into the afternoon.

We’re seeing a mix of March browns, blue winged olives, early PMDs, and some scattered caddis. It’s not lights-out dry fly fishing yet, but if you’re in the right water at the right time, you can find fish looking up.

Subsurface is still doing the heavy lifting. Stonefly nymphs, caddis pupa, and general mayfly patterns are all producing. Fish are holding in classic spring water—softer seams, inside edges, and transition zones—so focus your efforts there and adjust based on the type of water you’re fishing.

The canyon is greening up, bugs are starting to move, and the fish are definitely waking up. It’s a great window to get out there before the crowds show up.
