Continues to fish really well!

The Metolius River continues to fish really well and is sliding fully into its summer rhythm. Flows remain steady, water clarity is excellent, and warmer weather over the last week has continued pushing bug activity forward.

PMDs are becoming the main afternoon hatch and caddis activity has noticeably increased during the evenings.  BWOs are still around during the cooler morning periods.

Nymphing remains a productive day-to-day approach. Golden stones, caddis pupa, perdigons, jigged mayfly patterns, hare’s ears, and smaller attractor nymphs are all producing fish consistently. Focus on pocket water, seams, and softer edges where fish are feeding comfortably without expending much energy.

The warmer forecast heading into early June should only continue extending hatch windows. Bull trout fishing has also remained solid for anglers putting time in around deeper structure with streamers and larger sculpin patterns.

Folks are seeing good bug activity, healthy fish movement, and increasingly consistent dry fly opportunities throughout the system.

Suggested Dries:
March Brown #12-14, Purple Haze #16-20, PMD Sparkle Dun #16-18, Elk Hair Caddis #14-18, Parachute Adams #16-20, CDC PMD Emerger #16-18

Suggested Nymphs:
Golden Stone Nymphs #8-10, Brown Jimmy Legs #8-12, Jigged Hare’s Ear #14-16, Jigged Pheasant Tail #14-16, Copper John #16-18, Lightning Bug #14-18, Sparkle Pupa #16-18, Olive Perdigon #16-18
