The Metolius continues to fish fantastic with cold, consistent spring flows keeping fish active throughout the river, with trout holding in classic pocket water, deeper slots, and the softer edges below boulders and cut banks. Anglers who take a patient approach and focus on precise presentations rather than covering water quickly are finsing fish throughout the day.
PMDs continue to provide the most dependable afternoon hatch, while evening caddis activity has become increasingly consistent over the past week. Blue Wing Olives remain part of the daily mix, and a few Golden Stones are still showing up.
Subsurface fishing continues to produce the most consistent action between hatch windows. Golden Stone nymphs, Zebra Midges, Olive Perdigons, PMD nymphs, and tan caddis pupa are all producing. Anglers targeting bull trout are finding the best success by working articulated streamers through deeper pools during the early morning and evening hours.
