The Metolius continues to settle into its fall rhythm with cooler weather and shorter days creating great conditions throughout the system. Flows remain on the lower side for late September, with pocket water, deeper slots, and softer edges around structure all worth attention.

The hatch mix continues to broaden with Mahogany Duns, BWOs, PMDs, and a variety of caddis remaining part of the mix. Word is Green Drakes have been showing during the afternoon. Little Olive Stones and Golden Stones remain important, while October Caddis continue to be worth having available.

Subsurface fishing remains steady with Perdigons, soft hackles, caddis pupa, mayfly nymphs, stonefly patterns, and October Caddis pupa all worth having in the rotation. Bull trout remain active and larger streamers continue to be a good option through deeper pools and structure. Chinook and bull trout spawning activity remains underway, so continue to watch carefully for redds and give spawning fish plenty of room.
