The Lower D is holding steady with classic mid-summer fishing right now. Caddis and PMDs continue to carry things day to day, with the best dry fly windows happening early and late. X-Caddis, Foam Body Caddis, and the new Center Stage Caddis have all been moving fish, along with smaller PMD dries like Purple Haze or Sparkle Duns. Rusty Spinners are still a smart option in the last light.

Mid-day, Euro and indicator nymphing is the go-to. Jig PMD Nymphs, Walt’s Worms, Perdigons, Soft Hackle PTs, and the Nitro Caddis Pupa are all solid players right now. Dry-dropper rigs with smaller Chubbies and a Walt’s Worm or Jig PMD underneath are a good all-day setup if you want to cover a lot of water. Fish are definitely looking for caddis in riffles and pocket water, especially with shade lines in play.

Flows are stable, clarity is great, and it’s been consistent if you work smart hours. Be sure to keep an eye on the Cram Fire situation north of Madras—it’s not directly affecting the Day Stretch, but conditions can change quickly this time of year with heat and wind in the forecast.
