Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
The Crooked River continues to fish well and is settling into a really nice late spring rhythm. Flows below Bowman have stayed stable, keeping fish spread into predictable holding water and making for great conditions throughout the system.
PMDs are becoming more active and caddis activity is continuing to build with the warmer weather. March Browns are still showing up during the better hatch windows, while midges remain important during the slower morning and evening periods. Dry fly opportunities are definitely improving, especially during cloudy afternoons and calmer evening windows when fish are willing to stay up longer.
Nymphing remains the most productive approach overall. Zebra Midges, soft hackles, perdigons, Two Bit Hookers, caddis pupa, and smaller mayfly patterns are all producing.
The warmer holiday weekend forecast should only continue pushing bug activity and fish movement in the right direction as the river transitions closer toward prime dry fly season.
