The Little Truckee has been fishing very well this week. Flows are still a bit high for some, but we would say that they are close to perfect. High enough to spread the fish out, and enough flow to add a fun challenge when presenting to them. Good for both dry fly fishing and nymphing with either indicators or the euro rod. The main bugs have been PMDs, baetis, midges, caddis and green drakes. The drakes have become particularly active this week, and we’ve been getting some good reports of dry fly fishing with them. The opportunity to catch an otherwise PHD level tailwater fish on a size 12 fly is something that you shouldn’t miss! The PMD hatch remains mid-day, the caddis in the evenings, midges in the mornings, and the drakes.. kinda whenever they want! Well, maybe they trend towards the afternoons a bit, but it’s more luck of the draw than anything. As is typical for the dry fly fishing out here, the use of light tippet, long leaders and fishing the emerger over the adults will be your best way to dupe these wily trout.
