The river remains in great shape from Tahoe City to Reno. The water temps are starting to get a little warm in the afternoons so no matter what section you are fishing the mornings and evenings have been the best time to go.

California - Flows coming out of Lake Tahoe are in the 300 cfs range. This is great news for the upper river. Once you get to the Boca Bridge area you're looking at about 500 cfs and it stays that way all the way to the state line. This is Tim's Dead Drift Crayfish time of year. The Cray's start to molt in August and the fish really start to key in on the soft shells. Nymphing in the mornings with a Crayfish and a smaller dropper like a Caddis or Little Yellow Stone imitation has been working well. In the evenings there has been a Caddis and Little Yellow Stone hatch but it is late, sometimes after dark. If you can get a day with a little cloud cover in the evenings it might help a bit.

Nevada - Flows are in the 350 cfs to 400 cfs range. The water is definitely on the warm side, especially in the middle of the day. The fishing has been outstanding. NDOW has done a good job of stocking the river around the parks and the fish are hungry. If you are looking to fish for wild fish you just need to get out in the more remote areas on the river. Nymphing in the mornings has been best either with an indicator or a dry dropper set-up. Stimulators, Hoppers and just about any big dry with a smaller bead head nymph like a Copper John, Hare's Ear or a Pheasant Tail in a size 16 for the Dropper. If you are using an indicator rig try a Poxyback Stone for the lead fly.
