Flows on the Crooked are sitting around 208 CFS right now and have leveled out. The river is still a bit pushy compared to true low-water conditions, but it’s very fishable and fish are settling into more predictable water.
Bug activity is starting to build. Blue winged olives and early march browns are showing in the afternoons once things warm up, and midges are still a consistent player in the mornings and evenings.
Nymphing is your best bet. Midges, BWO nymphs, and general mayfly patterns are all producing, but with the added water, don’t be afraid to run something a little bigger to get down and stand out. Fish are holding in softer seams, inside edges, and slower buckets—focus there and you’ll find them.
There are windows for dry flies, especially during the afternoon BWO and march brown activity, but they’re not long. Be ready and you can pick off a few fish looking up.
